Day of the Dead/ Día De Muertos
Tamara’s commitment to teaching is centralized in her Mexican identity and highlighting the Mexican tradition Día De Muertos. Since 2000, Tamara has led educational and traditional Folk-Arts workshops in-schools, and has been invited to lead Master Classes at the following Universities and Museums:
Wellesley College (Key-note Speaker), The American Folk Art Museum, The Newark Museum, the American Crafts Museum, and the Staten Island Children’s Museum.
She was awarded a 2012 JP Morgan Chase Artists in Our Communities grant for in-school programing of Dia De Muertos workshops.
Tamara’s main Día De Muerto’s work is with her mother, Irma Bohorquez-Geisler, who is the leading Master Teaching Artist on Día De Muertos in the Tri-State area. Her festival NYC Day Of The Dead Festival draws 500+ participants each year. In 2019, they celebrated their 27th anniversary of the festival.
